It is now official: a few days ago the Office Product Management team announced the version 2016 for SharePoint on-premise.
Microsoft has not buried on-premise solutions yet
As Microsoft is pushing the use of Office 365, many users were wondering what would be the future of SharePoint on-premise.
Well, it is true Office 365 is a great tool and will probably become the most used cloud service for professional use, but SharePoint on-premise, when used as a platform development allow you to build complex and powerful systems, designed with very specific requirements. And Office 365 does not provide (at the time) the flexibility to achieve the same result as a SharePoint “classic” platform.
However SharePoint is evolving along with Office 365. The on premise platform will be designed to ease the development of hybrid solutions distributed over the cloud (mostly Office 365) and the proper SharePoint on premise platform.

What about new feature?
It is still too soon to know about the major new features. Hopefully we will have a better overview during the next Microsoft Ignite conference.
